Jan 2007

After nearly 15 years of touring Australia wide and 30 years of gigging intensively around Sydney, Pat is celebrating with a set of 30 Year Retrospective Shows at The Harp Hotel In Tempe in September to mark his thirtieth year in music.

Although he is emphatically NOT repeat NOT! retiring as some rumours have it, Pat will not be touring extensively in the coming 12 months except for some short trips away . He is taking a well earned rest and taking up a supporting role at home to coincide with Carol's expanded responsibilities as Director of her Preschool in Lawson.

He will be continuing his long running association with both The Wiseman's Ferry Inn and The Jamberoo Hotel during this time as well as making the annual pilgrimage to Tamworth in January 2007.

A longer explanation in The Home Straight Newsletter for those who have been wondering. The Home Straight

A new 30 years in Music Website is being prepared currently and short retrospective for the press is available here "30 years without a real job'

New!!!! 30 Years In Music Retrospective September 2006

Hi there,

I don't know how I 'got away with it' for so long. All of it was an accident.

On Sunday September 24th, 1976 I went to see ( a then unknown) Paul Kelly at The Journey's End Wine Bar in Forbes Street, Wooloomooloo. He didn't turn up. After an hour's wait my friend, and later NDP Federal Senator, Robert Wood tapped me on the shoulder and said . "You're on." I just happened to have a new guitar I had bought that day from Harry Landis in the car. To say it was a success would be an understatement. I was to be at that venue on Sunday Nights for the next seven and a half years....

Bizarrely, on the year of my 30th Professional anniversary all the dates again lineup exactly.

I am doing three gigs to celebrate at The Harp Hotel at Tempe in Sydney on Sun, 17 Sept 2006, Sun, 24 Sept 2006 and Sun, 1 Oct 2006 (2.30PM -6PM) where I'll be doing a 'no repeat' journey through all the different incarnations I've lived through over that time and the music that came from each period

It has been quite an astonishing journey, I'd ike to take some credit for it all but most of it., from tthat night to the Naked Poets has been fueled by 'a long list of similar 'accidents'.

Here is a link to the relatively short 'potted' Press release

Press Release (Potted Version)

and here is a link to the much longer and I think far more interesting '30 Year retrospective Website' which chronicles those years in some detail. I often think it reads more like the plot of a movie than a resume; one in which characters as diverse as Paul Kelly, Gough Whitlam, Senator Robert Wood (NDP), Murray Farquhar, Iva Davies, Alan Bond and John Schumann made at times the most startling, if sometimes, unwitting contributions. There are some particularly amusing Twists of Fate here that you may appreciate.

Full 30 Years In Music Retrospective (with masses of never before seen photos, history...etc)

We are celebrating over the next three Sundays with three shows at The Harp Hotel in Tempe. I was wondering if you would be interested in a chat sometime in the next few weeks.

Richard Glover is doing a feature this Friday (tomorrow) on ABC 702 Drive and I would love to see your good selves at the gigs over the next three weeks if that's at all possible.
